João Labrincha is Associate Professor at the Materials and Ceramics Engineering Dept. of the University of Aveiro and member of the CICECO research unit. Following his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering (University of Aveiro, 1993) he has implemented a research line on Wastes Recycling. Simultaneously he leaded the creation in the University of Aveiro of Pos-grad studies in that field. Other research interests include self-cleaning ceramic coatings, novel and sustainable cement and mortar formulations.
João Labrincha has 22 patent applications (two of those as International PTC), and has more than 220 publications (more than 150 papers belonging to the SCI). He was cited 1076 times and has h = 20 (Scopus in April 2012). He is Associate editor of J. Clay Minerals (IF = 1.341) since 2011.
He supervised 11 PhD and 41 MSc theses and has now 4 new students under progress.
He acted as a reviewer (more than 60 times in the last 5 years) of significant scientific journals like Environmental Science & Technology, Dyes & Pigments, J. Hazardous Materials, Chemosphere, Environmental Chemistry Letters, Nanoscale Research Letters, Waste Management, J. of the American Ceramic Society.
He was member of the Organizing/Scientific Commission of several International Congresses (12th International Ceramics Congress (CIMTEC), Italy, June 2010, was the last), acted as Chairman in many other (e.g., REWAS 2004, Global Symposium on Recycling, Waste Treatment and Clean Technology, Session on Conversion and Reutilization VI, Sept. 26-29, Madrid), and was also invited as speaker in distinct events.
He acted also as referee of projects applications for the Portuguese "Agência de Inovação".
